The ecosystem of Bardia National Park

Bardia National Park, situated in the lowland Terai, is the largest national park, covering an area of 968 square kilometers. Initially established as the Karnali Wildlife Reserve in 1976, a small area was designated for conservation purposes. In 1983, it was renamed Bardia Wildlife Reserve and later expanded to its current size in 1984. The reserve was eventually upgraded to a national park in 1988. Bardia National Park is a sanctuary for endangered flora and fauna, with the Karnali River providing a suitable habitat for the Gangetic dolphin. The Babai Valley within the park is a stunning location where visitors can spot flagship species such as rhinos, tigers, and elephants in their natural habitat. The park offers a range of experiences in its vast wilderness, with approximately 70% of the area covered by sal trees, grasslands, and riverine forests. Endangered animals like the Royal Bengal tiger, wild elephant, one-horned rhinoceros, swamp deer, and black buck can be found here, along with endangered species of crocodiles and dolphins. Alternatively, there is a direct flight from Kathmandu to Nepalgunj, which takes 40 minutes, followed by a 1-hour drive by private vehicle at an additional cost. Upon arrival, guests can check into the hotel and embark on a 2-night/3-day safari tour. Note:If you are planning to fly between Kathmandu and Nepalganj, please note that a one-way flight will be priced at USD 150, while a round-trip flight will cost USD 300. It is crucial to understand that these flight charges are not part of the package. Similarly, for individuals looking to travel between Nepaljang and the Bardia National Park, a one-way trip will cost USD50, and a round trip will cost USD100. These transportation costs are also not included in the price mentioned.

Bardia is positioned quite far from both Kathmandu (567 km) and Pokhara (238km). If you wish to travel by bus, it is indeed possible, but you will need to start your journey a day prior to the trip. Another option is to take a scenic flight from either Kathmandu or Pokhara with a one-hour flight.Upon reaching Bardiya, your guide will provide detailed information about the trip. The day will be flexible, with a short walk planned along the forest's buffer zone. Your accommodation at one of the lodges in Bardia will be arranged by your guide.

Transportation:

There are multiple options available for traveling between Kathmandu, Pokhara and Bardia National Park. As part of our package, we provide a complimentary Deluxe bus transfer service. However, if you prefer a private vehicle or a flight, these options are also available for an additional fee.

If you choose to travel by bus, please note that you will need to start your journey one day prior in the evening. The bus ride typically takes around 14 to 15 hours. On the other hand, traveling by private vehicle also takes approximately 13 to 14 hours, but it offers a more comfortable experience.

For those seeking the utmost comfort, a flight is the most convenient option. The flight from Kathmandu or Pokhara to Nepalganj takes only 1 hour. Please be aware that the flight cost is USD 160. Upon reaching Nepalganj, a car will be required to reach Bardia National Park, and an additional USD50 will be charged for this one-way journey.

Accommodation:

Experience the Bardia National Park safari package and enjoy a complimentary, comfortable lodging facility. The cozy resort offers a range of amenities, including free wifi, air-conditioned rooms, hot water, and well-decorated rooms, all conveniently located near the national park. This package includes two nights of accommodation.

Best Season:

The Bardia National Park safari is available throughout the year, but it is important to consider the weather conditions. The rainy season, in particular, can bring about floods, making it less convenient for a safari. For the optimal experience, it is recommended to visit during spring (March to May), autumn (September to November), or winter (December to February).

Travel Insurance: 

The package provides guide and diver's insurance, however, traveler's insurance is not included. It is crucial to ensure you have appropriate travel insurance that covers emergencies.
