Bardia National Park, situated in the lowland Terai, is the largest national park, covering an area of 968 square kilometers. Initially established as the Karnali Wildlife Reserve in 1976, a small area was designated for conservation purposes. In 1983, it was renamed Bardia Wildlife Reserve and later expanded to its current size in 1984. The reserve was eventually upgraded to a national park in 1988. Bardia National Park is a sanctuary for endangered flora and fauna, with the Karnali River providing a suitable habitat for the Gangetic dolphin. Bardia is positioned quite far from both Kathmandu (567 km) and Pokhara (238km). If you wish to travel by bus, it is indeed possible, but you will need to start your journey a day prior to the trip. Another option is to take a scenic flight from either Kathmandu or Pokhara with a one-hour flight.Upon reaching Bardiya, your guide will provide detailed information about the trip. The day will be flexible, with a short walk planned along the forest's buffer zone. Your accommodation at one of the lodges in Bardia will be arranged by your guide.
