Namobuddha Hiking is a popular day hiking spot near Kathmandu Valley. The Namobuddha Hike is short, easy, and offers great rewards, making it a must-visit when you have a leisure day in Kathmandu. Located at an altitude of 1,740 m, Namo Buddha is a charming village situated on a picturesque hill with a well-maintained Buddhist monastery, Thrangu Tashi Yangtse Monastery, which is a significant pilgrimage site for Nepali Buddhists. The walk from Panauti to Namobuddha can be a spiritual journey in itself. Panauti, an ancient Newari village, is located in Kavre District, 35 km southeast of Kathmandu. Despite its proximity to modern conveniences, Panauti has successfully preserved its ancient culture and numerous Hindu temples.

Highlights of the Namobuddha Hiking

Our Namobuddha Hiking commences with a scenic drive from Kathmandu to Dhulikhel. Located on the southeastern outskirts of Kathmandu, approximately 27 miles away from the city center, Namobuddha is a serene place surrounded by the beauty of nature. The architectural marvel of this temple is truly awe-inspiring, and its golden facade radiates a sense of peace that extends far beyond its boundaries. As you make your way towards Namobuddha, you will also have the opportunity to explore the charming town of Dhulikhel, known for its rich history and numerous temples scattered throughout its narrow alleys. Legend has it that Dhulikhel was a city of great bravery, as it resisted the attempts of Prithvi Narayan Shah, the unifier of Nepal, to wage war against it. Over the centuries, Dhulikhel has remained a bustling commercial hub, where Tibetan merchants used to trade Bhaktapur products for salt and other goods. The town is also home to several ancient temples and architectural wonders, where you can immerse yourself in the serene ambiance of Buddha's teachings. These places are truly captivating and offer a glimpse into the past.

Moreover, the natural beauty surrounding Dhulikhel is simply breathtaking. From the hilltop, you can indulge in the mesmerizing views of the majestic Himalayas. While exploring Dhulikhel, make sure not to miss the legendary Namobuddha temple, which was built to establish a monastic college for the study of Buddhist philosophy, a meditation hall, and a space for various activities at the monastery. If one were to describe Namobuddha solely based on its appearance, it would be a golden temple adorned with gilded sculptures and mandalas throughout its interiors. The main premises feature 36 pillars, each topped with a gilded Buddha structure. The wall paintings depict the life of Buddha, evoking a range of emotions associated with the human experience. It is truly a remarkable place that offers a unique and exotic experience. After the hike, we will return to Kathmandu following the same route we took earlier.
