Tilicho Lake Annapurna Circuit Trek

Tilicho Lake Annapurna Circuit Trek is widely recognized as one of the most popular and demanding trekking and hiking routes in the Annapurna region. At Himalayan Trekking Path, we have designed a 16-day itinerary for the Annapurna Circuit Trek with Tilicho Lake, which includes a side trip to Tilicho Lake - one of the highest freshwater lakes in the world. Starting from Kathmandu, the trail takes you through Dharapani and follows the Marsyangi River Valley, offering breathtaking views of the stunning Tilicho Lake. You will then conquer the world's highest pass (Thorong La-5416m) before descending to Muktinath and continuing along the Kali Gandaki River Valley, home to the world's deepest gorge. Initially, you will follow the traditional Annapurna trail until you reach Manang. From there, you will embark on a captivating 3- to 4-day journey to the pristine Tilicho Lake, situated at an impressive altitude of 4949 m/16237 ft above sea level. The beauty of this heavenly destination will leave you awestruck. After experiencing the mesmerizing beauty of Tilicho Lake, you will rejoin the Annapurna Circuit trek trail at Yak Kharka and continue onwards to Thorong La - the highest point of the trek, standing tall at 5416m above sea level. Upon conquering the summit, you will descend to Muktinath and eventually make your way back to Kathmandu via Pokhara. The excursion to Tilicho Lake during the Annapurna Circuit trek offers an unforgettable and delightful experience throughout the entire journey.

Tilicho Lake Annapurna Circuit Trekking is a renowned trekking route in the Annapurna region that takes you to the summit of Thorong La, the highest pass in the world, situated just below Thorong Peak. Before reaching this point, you will have the opportunity to visit the stunning and highest glacier lake, Tilicho. After conquering Thorong La, you will descend to Muktinath and then explore the awe-inspiring Kaligandaki gorge, known as the world's deepest, and immerse yourself in the Tibetan-influenced villages nestled beneath the majestic Nilgiri and Dhaulagiri Mountains. Throughout this journey, you will be treated to breathtaking views of the Himalayan ranges, encounter diverse climates, encounter charming local villages, witness magnificent waterfalls, traverse rice terraces, and immerse yourself in the local culture, as well as the rich flora and fauna of the region.

Embark on our 16-day Tilicho Lake Annapurna Circuit Trekking adventure, commencing with an exploration of the captivating kingdom of Kathmandu. Following this, we will embark on a picturesque bus journey to Besihhahar, traversing the enchanting Tirshuli and Marsyangi River Valleys. Departing from Kathmandu after a delightful breakfast, our expedition will lead us through quaint villages, terraced rice fields, and vibrant marketplaces. Continuing along the Kathmandu-Pokhara route until Dumre, situated 134 km west of Kathmandu, we will then veer left towards Besishahar, the administrative center of the Lamjung District, located 45 km from Dumre.

When embarking on the journey from Besishahar to Dharapani, you will be transported in a Jeep along the renowned Annapurna Circuit Trail. Unfortunately, the transportation infrastructure has caused some damage to the most picturesque section of the trail. Nevertheless, you will still have the opportunity to witness the breathtaking beauty of the lush green valley, enchanting waterfalls, and charming local villages during the Jeep ride. Dharapani serves as the convergence point for two remarkable circuits, namely the Annapurna and Manaslu circuits. It is where the Annapurna Circuit trek begins and the Manaslu Circuit trek concludes. If you desire to experience both circuit treks in a single holiday, we recommend our Manaslu and Annapurna Circuit Trek packages.

Our journey begins in Dharapani, where we will start walking for the rest of the trail until we reach Jomsom. Along the way, we will pass through a variety of villages, with the majestic Annapurna range serving as a stunning backdrop. This range includes peaks such as Lamjung Himal (6,983m), Annapurna IV (7,525m), and Annapurna II (7,937m). Our first stop is Chame, the headquarters of the Manang District, which is reached after traversing beautiful terrain. From there, we continue to Pisang, a village known for its breathtaking views of Annapurna II (7,937m), Annapurna IV (7,525m), Annapurna III (7,555m), and other peaks. Finally, we arrive at the highlight of the trek, Manang (3,540m), which offers a wealth of natural and cultural beauty. In Manang, we have the opportunity to visit Gangapuran Tal (3,872m) and Cave Gompa (4,000m), two popular landmarks in the area.

After visiting Manang, your next destination will be the awe-inspiring Tilicho Lake, which holds the title of being the highest lake in the world. To reach there, you will traverse through Khangsar (3734m) and Tilicho Base Camp (4150m). This journey is truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience that will leave you breathless. The Tilicho Lake Trek is not only a remarkable adventure but also provides the perfect acclimatization for crossing the Thorong La pass, which stands at an impressive altitude of 5416m. From the lake, you will be treated to the most magnificent views of the surrounding peaks before continuing your trek to Yak Kharka. As you follow the trail uphill, you will eventually reach Thorong La. Once you have successfully conquered this challenging pass, you will descend to Muktinath through a steep, downhill path. Muktinath is a sacred site revered by both Buddhist and Hindu devotees. Located on the Tibetan plateau amidst arid terrain, it offers a unique blend of Tibetan influences and a chance to explore their rich culture. Afterward, you will take a flight from Jomsom to Pokhara and finally return to Kathmandu, where our Tilicho Lake Annapurna Circuit Trek concludes.

We at the Himalayan Trekking Path cordially invite you to join us on this unforgettable journey through the majestic Himalayan country of Nepal.

Annapurna Circuit Trek difficulty

Experience the incredible diversity of climates and elevations on the Annapurna Circuit Trek as you journey from the sub-tropical climate to the tundra. This trek is carefully designed to allow for adequate acclimatization time. It is considered a moderate-level-difficulty trek, requiring an average of 6 hours of walking per day and covering a distance of 15 km. The highlight of this adventure is the crossing of Thorong La, the world's highest pass, towering at an impressive 5416m above sea level. While suitable for first-time trekkers, it is essential to have a reasonable level of fitness, prior experience, and mental and physical preparedness.

Annapurna Circuit Trek, best season:

Experience the Annapurna Circuit Trek at any time of the year with the Himalayan Trekking Path. We tailor the trek to your specific requirements. However, if you desire an extraordinary adventure during the perfect season, we provide a range of seasons for you to choose from. Please indicate your preferred season for an unforgettable journey.

Autumn Season: September to November

Autumn is the ideal season to embark on the Annapurna Circuit Trek, just like in other parts of Nepal. During this time, the rainfall decreases, allowing for sunny days that showcase the vibrant greenery at lower altitudes and stunning scenery. The climate is generally pleasant, with warm temperatures and stable weather conditions prevailing. This period presents a wonderful opportunity to witness the awe-inspiring Himalayan ranges and immerse oneself in the beauty of lush green valleys, including river valleys. Typically, tea houses along the trail are frequently fully booked due to the high number of tourists, so it is advisable to make reservations in advance to secure accommodations. Occasionally, congestion may occur along the route. If you are considering embarking on the Short Annapurna Circuit, plan and ensure a comfortable stay at the tea houses.

Spring season: March to May

Embarking on the  Annapurna Circuit trek during the spring season guarantees a remarkable experience. The longer days, excellent weather, and pleasant temperatures create an ideal environment for exploration. Along the trail, you will be enchanted by the essence of spring, witnessing vibrant blossoms, the melodious chorus of birds, verdant greenery at lower elevations, and magnificent mountain vistas as you ascend to higher altitudes.

Winter Season: December to February

The winter season, encompassing the months of December, January, and February, is generally not recommended for high-pass treks like the Annapurna Circuit Trek. However, if you are fortunate, you may encounter favorable weather conditions. Although it can be quite cold, with the appropriate gear, you can still enjoy the journey with fewer fellow travelers along the way. While we cannot guarantee a successful crossing of the Throng La Pass, if you are up for a challenge, our team is here to assist. Typically, the weather during this season is unstable and subject to frequent changes. Snowfall, storms, and avalanches are common occurrences. Nevertheless, we offer a remarkable winter trekking experience, with only a few exceptions.

Monsoon: June to August

It is not recommended to embark on the Annapurna Circuit Trek during the rainy seasons of June, July, and August. However, if luck is on your side, you may still have a fantastic trekking experience. The precipitation can pose challenges, but with appropriate gear, the trek can still be considered. Occasionally, landslides, cloudy weather, or heavy rain can obstruct the path or disrupt transportation due to road closures caused by landslides. This can result in poor visibility. Nevertheless, if you are contemplating this journey during this season, we are delighted to assist. However, please note that the success of the trip cannot be guaranteed at all times.

Travel insurance is mandatory.

Our topmost concern is your safety, as we are fully dedicated to delivering an exceptional experience throughout your expedition to the short Annapurna Circuit tour. It is compulsory to have travel insurance for this adventurous journey in Nepal, and we highly recommend it for your safety. We strongly urge all trekkers to acquire appropriate travel insurance that encompasses rescue, theft, and medical emergencies.

The trekking route is well-developed, ensuring clean bedding and well-decorated rooms. However, as you reach Manang, the rooms become more basic and shared compared to the lower elevations. Many tea houses also provide dining campfires, creating a cozy atmosphere. The lodges along the journey provide basic accommodations with limited services, including warm blankets and clean, comfortable bedding. Therefore, there is no need to carry a tent, although we recommend bringing your sleeping bag for optimal comfort.

The Annapurna Circuit trekking package ensures that you are well-fed throughout your journey. In Kathmandu, Pokhara, and the mountains, you can enjoy a wide range of meals. We understand the importance of catering to different dietary preferences, which is why we offer vegan, vegetarian, halal, and safe meat options. Your safety and satisfaction are our top priorities, so please inform us of any allergies or dietary restrictions you may have. What does the food look like?

In urban areas such as Kathmandu and Pokhara, the accommodation package includes a complimentary breakfast. The breakfast in the city offers a wide range of options, including eggs, meat, vegetables, fresh fruit, juice, bakery items, cereal, cheese, tea, coffee, and both local and continental dishes. Effective communication is particularly important during adventurous expeditions. Along the trail, each tea house offers WiFi service, ensuring connectivity. Additionally, if you wish to purchase a local SIM card and avail unlimited data service, that option is also available.

Phone and mobile data:

To ensure uninterrupted access to calling and internet services during your journey to the Annapurna Circuit Trek, it is highly advisable to acquire a local SIM card. NTC or NCELL, the reliable network providers, offer extensive coverage in the majority of areas you will be traveling through. These SIM cards are reasonably priced and can be conveniently purchased in Kathmandu. Remember to bring a copy of your passport, a passport-size photograph, and the required amount of money for a hassle-free transaction.

WIFI:

The WIFI service available at each lodge along the Annapurna Circuit Trek route is reasonably priced. In favorable weather conditions, the performance of the WiFi connection is excellent. However, please note that if the weather is unfavorable, the connection may be temporarily disrupted.

Charging facility:

The lodge, situated along the Annapurna Circuit trail, provides a charging facility that operates 24 hours a day, barring any unforeseen circumstances. While hydroelectricity is accessible at lower elevations, only solar power is available at higher altitudes. However, in the event of adverse weather conditions, the charging facility may be temporarily unavailable. To ensure an uninterrupted power supply for your device, we highly recommend carrying a power bank and a multiplug during your journey.

Trekking Gear:

It is crucial to have the appropriate trekking gear to ensure a remarkable trekking experience while exploring the Himalayan terrain. We strongly recommend organizing all the necessary equipment to ensure safety and preparedness for any unforeseen weather conditions. From selecting suitable attire to packing essential items, it is essential to make proper arrangements. For detailed information, here are the detailed Trekking Gears for preparation:
