We highly recommend visiting Kal Tal during your Manaslu Circuit trek to enhance your overall trekking experience.

From Shyala, it takes approximately 3 to 4 hours to hike, allowing you to enjoy serene and lovely moments, making it ideal for mountain and avalanche photography. Afterward, you can descend to Samagaun for an overnight stay. Please note that Pungen Gomba does not provide accommodation or meals, so if you plan to stay for an extended period, you will need to bring your own food and sufficient water. We highly recommend visiting Pungen Gomba to experience the breathtaking views and for optimal acclimatization.

However, this location is not exclusively for religious use; it primarily caters to trekkers needing a one-night stay. Here, trekkers prepare for the final ascent to Larke La Pass. The accommodations are quite basic, with only three tea houses available in the vicinity. If you are fortunate, you may secure a private room; otherwise, you will need to share with fellow trekkers. Generally, the lodging is very simple for a short overnight stay. The night is brief, as trekkers must rise early, waking at 4:00 am and having breakfast by 4:30 am, before making the final push to Larke La Pass at 5106m. Dharmasala offers stunning panoramic views of the Manaslu Range.

Mountain Accommodation

The Manaslu Circuit trek package includes mountain lodging for 13 nights at local tea houses or lodges. This trek, which began in 2010 AD as the tea house trek, is considered a new trail for trekking enthusiasts. Most camps provide comfortable yet very basic accommodations. Typically, both shared and private rooms are available. If you are traveling solo during peak season, you may need to share a room in locations where accommodations are limited. However, if you are traveling with one or more companions, you can share a room with your group. The rooms come equipped with comfortable mattresses and warm blankets. We recommend bringing a sleeping bag rated for temperatures as low as -20 degrees Celsius for the Manaslu Circuit trek to ensure a smooth journey, especially at Dharmasala, where blankets are scarce at the highest point of the trek.

Mountain Meal

The Manaslu Circuit trek Package offers mountain meals, which consist of Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner. You can select your meals from the menu. During the trek, breakfast and dinner will be served at the tea house where we spend the night, while lunch will be provided en route to the destination. You have the option to choose from local to continental cuisines, including Tibetan, Indian, Italian, and more. If you wish to experience organic and local cuisine, Dal Bhat is the best choice.

Drinking Water and a Hot Shower

The Manaslu Circuit Trek package does not include hot showers or drinking water, which consists of bottled water and hot water. Himalayan Trekking Path Pvt. Ltd. practices eco-friendly trekking in the mountains, providing spring water that is treated with tablets. If you wish to purchase bottled water or hot water, there will be an additional charge. The cost of water varies depending on the location and elevation, ranging from Rs 100 to Rs 600. We highly recommend bringing two water bottles for refills, and if you prefer, you can bring treatment equipment such as filters or tablets.

The Best season for the Manaslu Circuit Trek

The ideal times for the Manslu Circuit trek, similar to other trekking routes, are during Autumn (September to November) and Spring (March to May). In the primary trekking season, the weather is generally stable, featuring clear skies and pleasant temperatures, which contribute to an exceptional trekking experience with breathtaking mountain views. During Autumn, you will experience vibrant festivals and the stunning colors of the rice terraces, along with excellent visibility. In Spring, you can enjoy the sight of colorful flowers and rich visibility. Winter (December to February) brings cold temperatures, and the weather can sometimes be unfavorable. You may encounter heavy snowfall, which can block the trails. The rainy season (June to August) is not ideal due to wet trails and the risk of landslides and flooding. If you prefer a less crowded trekking experience, we recommend December, February, and August, but this requires proper preparation.

Manaslu Circuit Trek requires Permits and costs

The Manaslu circuit trek, which includes the Kal Tal and Tibetan trekking package, provides all necessary trekking permits. The restricted areas begin at Jagat and conclude in Bhimthang, requiring a special permit for 9 days as part of our package, with costs varying by season. If you are trekking in Autumn (September to November), the fee for the 7-day special permit is $100 per person, and a minimum of 2 trekkers is required. For any days beyond 7, the cost is $15 per day per person. During other trekking seasons, the cost is $75 per person for 7 days, with an additional charge of $10 per day per person thereafter. In addition to the special permits, a TIMS (Trekkers Information Management System) card is necessary for safety reasons, along with conservation permits for Manaslu and Annapurna to protect nature and maintain the trails, costing Rs 3000 per person for each region. Local permits will also incur a fee of Rs 1000 per person. The mentioned permits are mandatory and require a passport copy, a passport-sized photo, and a Nepal Visa.

Important Notice

Please be advised to set aside a few buffer days in case of adverse weather conditions. If everything goes smoothly, you can enjoy exploring Pokhara, the Chitwan safari tour, and cultural tours in Kathmandu. Typically, mountain weather can be unpredictable, and even during peak season, there can be heavy snowfall and rain in lower regions. To ensure a stress-free trip, please remember to include some extra days in your itinerary.

Preparation for the Manaslu Circuit Trek

Preparing for the Manaslu Circuit Trek requires physical, mental, and logistical readiness due to its remote and high-altitude nature. Begin training at least eight weeks in advance with cardio, strength, and endurance exercises focused on hiking and stair climbing. Pack appropriate layered clothing, sturdy trekking boots, and a cold-rated sleeping bag. Secure mandatory permits and comprehensive travel insurance covering high-altitude trekking and emergency evacuation. Plan proper acclimatization and maintain a slow, steady pace on the trail. Stay hydrated, eat well, and learn basic altitude sickness symptoms. Hiring an experienced local guide is essential for safety, navigation, and cultural insight throughout the trek.

Concern about altitude sickness and prevention

Altitude sickness is a key concern on the Manaslu Circuit Trek due to rapid elevation gain and the crossing of Larke La Pass at 5,106 meters. At Himalayan Trekking Path Pvt. Ltd., we prioritize client safety through carefully designed itineraries that allow proper acclimatization and gradual ascent. Our experienced local guides monitor trekkers daily for symptoms such as headache, nausea, dizziness, and fatigue. Prevention begins with walking at a slow, steady pace, staying well hydrated, and avoiding alcohol and smoking at higher elevations. We strongly recommend adding acclimatization hikes and taking rest days as scheduled. Eating nutritious meals and keeping the body warm also support adaptation. If symptoms appear, immediate rest and descent are advised.
